The University of the Philippines and the Senate Committee on Local Government, in partnership with The Foreign Service Institute of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Third World Studies Center, Asian Center of the University of the Philippines Diliman and the UP Alumni Association present “Piecing a Consensus for Peace: Comparative perspectives on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.”
The discussants of the forum include Senate Committee on Local Government Chair Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr.; Government Peace Panel for talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chair Miriam S. Coronel-Ferrer; Mr. Ade Petranto, Deputy Chief of Mission, Indonesian Embassy Manila; and Mr. Thomas Phipps, Second Secretary for Political and Security, British Embassy Manila.
The forum will discuss the emerging issues in the Senate consultations on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law and learn from the experiences of countries, Indonesia and United Kingdom, which undertook similar peace building efforts.
The forum aims to examine the challenges confronting the bill in Congress and to learn from the experience of the Republic of Indonesia and the United Kingdom. It will be held on 27 November 2014 at the GT Toyota Hall of Wisdom, Asian Center, UP Diliman from 12:00nn-5:00pm. Join us in our exchange of ideas towards peace in Mindanao.
