UP & YMCA-LB affirm ‘good neighbors’ status

UP and the Young Men’s Christian Association of the Philippines-Los Baños (YMCA-LB) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) which would secure their good neighbors relationship of 93 years for another 20 years, on January 30, 2017 at the office of outgoing UP president, Alfredo Pascual.

Buildings to rise for UPLB-CEM

The UP Los Baños College of Economics and Management (UPLB-CEM) celebrated its 38th Foundation Day on July 27, 2016 with a ground-breaking ceremony for a P190-million complex featuring two new four-story buildings.
To be funded by the University and the government through an appropriation facilitated by a CEM alumnus congressman, the complex will house the Economics and Management Studies Center (EMSC) and the Agricultural and Economics Development Studies Center (AEDSC).

eUP Project Team Statement on the DoS Attack Against SAIS

Following the earlier reports of the sudden slowdown and inaccessibility of the Student Academic Information System (SAIS) coinciding with the enrollment period in UP Manila, UP Los Baños, UP Baguio, and UP Cebu, the eUP Project Team has confirmed that the SAIS was subjected to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. A DoS attack is an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from one or more sources.

Statement on the Untimely Death of UP Alumnus Emmanuel C. Peña in an Ambush in Calauan, Laguna

The University of the Philippines academic community grieves with the untimely and unnecessary loss of one of its members, alumnus Emmanuel C. Peña.
Emman as how family and friends called him, was killed in an ambush on March 27, in Barangay Imok, Calauan, Laguna. A barangay councilor aspiring to join the municipal council, Emman together with Calauan Mayor Buenafrido Berris and driver Leonardo Taningco, were attacked by unknown gunmen.  Berris was wounded while he and Taningco died on the spot.
Finishing Bachelor of Science in Development Communication in 2011, Emman graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He …

Nagoya U sets up satellite campus at UPLB

New UP choirs dominate system-wide choral competition

Biotech advocates seek reversal of SC decision banning Bt talong field tests

A network of biotechnology advocates is set to launch a nationwide campaign to counter the Supreme Court’s (SC) recent decision that permanently stopped the field testing of the transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis eggplant or Bt talong and voided a key government policy on biotechnology adoption.
Reynaldo Cabanao, national president of the Asian Farmers Network (ASFARNET)-Philippines, said Friday they have started to mobilize their ranks for the massive signature drive urging for the reversal of the SC decision.
