UP Salutes Distinguished Alumni

The University of the Philippines (UP), led by President Alfredo E. Pascual, held a dinner at the UP Diliman Executive House to honor the 2016 UP Alumni Association (UPAA) awardees on June 22, 2016.
This year’s field of awardees was led by the Most Distinguished Alumnus, Dr. David M. Consunji (BSCE ’46, LLD ’93) and the Most Distinguished Alumna, Amina Rasul-Bernardo (AB’ 75). New UPAA President takes oath of office

Atty. Ramon M. Maronilla, newly elected president of the UP Alumni Association (UPAA) for 2015-2018, took his oath of office before U.P. President Alfredo E. Pascual on July 6, 2015.
Erstwhile UPAA 2nd Vice-President in 2012-2015, Atty. Maronilla will lead the UPAA until June 30, 2018. A practicing lawyer, he is also the president of the City of Malabon University. As a dyed-in-the-wool Jaycee, he has been National Senior Executive Vice-President of the Philippine Jaycees and member of the Jaycees International Senate No. 34032. In 1998, he was elected Centennial President of Club Filipino.

Grand art exhibit depicting history opened at mall

The show, conceived during UP’s Centennial and which took five years to concretize, was made possible through the cooperation among UP, the UP Alumni Association, and the Araneta Center Inc. It features 30 mural-size paintings by 28 UP alumni artists depicting Philippine history from the time of the Angono Petroglyphs to the administration of President Benigno Aquino.

Alumni in America set up scholarship grant

UPAA to host forum on Bangsamoro Framework Agreement

The UP Alumni Association will host the next session of Kapihan ng Bayan sa U.P. on September 23, 2014, Tuesday, 3:00-5:00 PM, at the Salazar Hall of Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, Quezon City. The forum will closely examine a yet pending and still smoldering national issue — the “Bangsamoro Framework Agreement.”
The Kapihan will begin with remarks from U.P. President Alfredo E. Pascual, followed by an exposition of the topic by Ms. Amina Zalmia Rasul Bernardo, president of the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID), as resource person.

From martial law to DOST, UP graduate Mario Montejo still curious

He entered the University of the Philippines (UP) with a curiosity for the sciences and the burning issues of the day. It was the First Quarter Storm, the period of student unrest that preceded the declaration of martial law, and the country was in chaos.
The same inquisitiveness has informed Mario Montejo’s career and present role as secretary of science and technology.
“During those turbulent times, we took extra effort to understand the issues of the day. We were more than curious,” he said in an interview.

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) has announced the choices for this year’s UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awardees. The outstanding graduates will be recognized at the U.P. General Alumni-Faculty Homecoming & Reunion on June 21, 2014, 4 p.m., at Luciano E. Salazar Hall, Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman Campus, Quezon City.

Search for 2014 UPAA Alumni Awardes is on

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association has already started preparations for the 2014 UP General Alumni-Faculty Homecoming and Reunion. Themed “Bagong Tagsibol,” the homecoming will be held on  held at Ang Bahay ng Alumni and the UP Theater, UP Diliman Campus, Quezon City, on June 21, 2013, Saturday, at 4:00 p.m.
Members of the Jubilee classes – Class of ’54 (Diamond), Class of ’64 (Golden), Class of ’74 (Ruby), and Class of ’89 (Silver) –  will be preparing special presentations evoking memories of the university years for the homecoming events.

UPAA appeals for donations for Yolanda-hit students

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) is appealing for donations for some 650 students who were affected by the devastation wrought by super typhoon “Yolanda.”
“We’re making this urgent request for donations for some 650 displaced and deprived students from Super Typhoon Yolanda-devastated areas. We are banking on your generosity for the subsistence of these distressed UP students,” UPAA President Ponciano Rivera said.
“Most of these students have nothing left, but the clothes on their backs. Your assistance will definitely lift their morale,” Rivera added.
The UPAA said their appeal is in support of the university’s “Kalinga kay Isko at Iska” …
