Capitalizing on a lead made early in the game, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons chalked up another win for University Athletic Association of Philippines (UAAP) Season 78, after it defeated the De La Salle University Green Archers 71-66 on Wednesday, at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City. This was the second Maroons win after they defeated the University of the East Red Warriors last Saturday.

The 78th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) games kicked off on September 5, 2015 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with a spectacular “Arkipelago” mounted by this season’s host University of the Philippines, followed by a breakthrough victory by the UP men’s basketball team in the opening game.
The opening extravaganza, which depicted both scientific and mythical accounts of the birth of the Philippine archipelago, drew parallels between the Philippine islands and UAAP member-universities.

UP Women’s Taekwondo Team wins Championship in UAAP Season 77

With season MVP Charizza Camille Alombro leading the way, the University of the Philippines Women’s Taekwondo Team defeated De La Salle University, 5-2, winning the championship in their category.
The Lady Maroons, who last won the championship in 2002 behind Sugar Catalan, finished the season with a 5-1 slate, with the lone setback came from the hands of the former champion University of the Santo Tomas Tigresses, whose roster are filled with national team mainstays.

UP Pep Squad Place Second, Push for Equality in Cheerdance Competition

With the roar of the UP community behind them, the UP Pep Squad bent conventions en route to a solid runner-up finish in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition 2014.
In what was described as more of a vision than a theme, the squad which has been called the “Pep Squad ng Bayan” sported colored braids and featured pyramids that had female dancers lifting their male counterparts in an embodiment of the spirit of equality (pantay-pantay).

University of the Philippines rallied from two matches down to end Ateneo’s reign, 3-2, and complete an unbeaten campaign in the UAAP Season 77 women’s badminton Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
The Lady Maroons banked on season MVP Jessie Francisco’s 21-16, 21-13 win over Jana de Vera in the deciding singles match to hack out the hard-earned triumph, which ended a 14-year title drought via a nine-game sweep.

The University of the Philippines (UP) rallied from two matches down to end Ateneo de Manila University’s reign, 3-2, and complete an unbeaten campaign in the UAAP Season 77 women’s badminton on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

Despite falling to the UE Red Warriors, 68-48, last 16 August, UP President Alfredo E. Pascual praised the fighting spirit of the UP Fighting Maroons.
A 19-point effort from guard Mikee Reyes was not enough to prevent the Maroons from falling to the Warriors in Saturday’s second game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Warriors’ frontline was simply too strong, led as they were by a 15-point, 14-rebound effort by Charles Mammie.

In local college basketball, the bonfire normally signifies a huge accomplishment, like the end of a long, arduous and fruitful journey to winning a championship.

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons ended their 27-game losing streak by overwhelming the hapless Adamson University Falcons, 77-64, on Saturday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
