The 78th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) games kicked off on September 5, 2015 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with a spectacular “Arkipelago” mounted by this season’s host University of the Philippines, followed by a breakthrough victory by the UP men’s basketball team in the opening game.
The opening extravaganza, which depicted both scientific and mythical accounts of the birth of the Philippine archipelago, drew parallels between the Philippine islands and UAAP member-universities.

In local college basketball, the bonfire normally signifies a huge accomplishment, like the end of a long, arduous and fruitful journey to winning a championship.

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons ended their 27-game losing streak by overwhelming the hapless Adamson University Falcons, 77-64, on Saturday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
