UP Visayas honors President Alfredo E. Pascual with “Pasidungog, Pagdayaw, Pasalamat”

On February 15, UP Visayas (UPV) officials, faculty members, professors emeriti, students, staff, and alumni, including Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, gathered at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel in Iloilo City to honor the 20th president of the University of the Philippines, Alfredo E. Pascual.
The tribute had for its theme “Pasidungog, Pagdayaw, Pasalamat”. The program featured performances and messages from the different sectors of the Miag-ao and Tacloban units.

UP Cebu (UPC) constituents thanked outgoing UP president, Alfredo Pascual, and recognized his administration’s achievements in developing the campus, through a pasidungog or tribute held on February 2, 2017 in the Performing Arts Hall of the UPC’s Lahug, Cebu City campus.

UP Baguio (UPB) held a tribute program for UP President Alfredo Pascual on January 31, more than a week before he steps down from the University leadership.

UP Asian Center Hosts Memorial For Benedict Anderson

The Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman hosted a memorial for Professor Benedict Anderson on Tuesday, 22 December 2015, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Seminar Room, 2F, Hall of Wisdom, Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman.
Benedict Richard O’Gorman Anderson, who was Professor Emeritus of International Studies, Government and Asian Studies at Cornell University, passed away on 13 December 2015 in Indonesia.  He was 79. He is best-known for his book, Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism, which was first published in 1983 but has since undergone countless editions and been translated into several …

Scientists offer tribute to Nobel laureate

UP Diliman’s Institute of Chemistry (IC) organized a tribute for Nobel laureate Richard F. Heck on October 22, 2015 at the IC teaching building, with guests from the Philippine scientific community, the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering, the US embassy, and Heck’s family.
The tribute consisted of anecdotes and lectures on the significance of Heck’s work, “palladium-catalyzed cross couplings in organic synthesis,” which won for him and two others the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2010.
