CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program 2016

The ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme (AYVP) 2016 is in its fourth year and 2016 will see it being held in the Philippines from 1st to 26th August 2016 focusing on the thematic area of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
This programme, developed and implemented by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (The National University of Malaysia – UKM), under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will be working closely with the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University.

27 UP students to graduate despite error in GE

The 11-member UP Board of Regents—the highest governing body of the university consisting of representatives of government, the university, and other stakeholders—approved the petition of 27 UP Baguio students to graduate despite having followed an outdated general education program.

Johns Hopkins nursing students take transition course at UP Manila

UPLB students take part in typhoon relief missions

Weeks before the school opening, students from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) have been busy sorting and packing donated clothes, goods and other materials intended for the victims of Typhoon “Glenda” (international name: Rammasun), which wreaked havoc on several communities in Southern Luzon.
Serve the People Brigade (STPB), the public service arm of UPLB’s student council established in 1972, was reactivated in response to typhoon-stricken communities.
As of Tuesday, volunteers were able to raise P7,000 cash and collected 2,700 pieces of used clothing as well as canned goods and toiletries after weeks of “school-, house- and bus-hopping,” said brigade …

UP Law student body slams PNoy criticism vs. SC ruling on DAP

On the eve of the President’s State of the Nation Address, the University of the Philippines College of Law Student Government on Sunday lashed at President Benigno III’s criticisms against the Supreme Court ruling declaring as unconstitutional some portions of the Disbursement Acceleration Program.
“The University of the Philippines College of Law Student Government fervently supports the Supreme Court in its decision on the Disbursement Acceleration Program,” a post on the student body’s Facebook page read.

UP Mountaineers runs 138 km on its 37th year

The UP Mountaineers, a pioneering outdoor organization based in the University of the Philippines – Diliman, will hold a 138-kilometer run from the UP Diliman campus in Quezon City to Real, Quezon to mark its 37th year. The run will start at 9 pm on June 20, Friday, at the Diliman campus.

UP CMC students to join Japan exchange program

Senior University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP CMC) Journalism and Communication Research students Meryl Louise Brown, Angela Isabel Lustre and Edmer Maguan will join the Philippines’ 139-member delegation to the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange Students and Youth Program (JENESYS 2.0) from May 26 to June 03 in Japan.
Brown, Lustre and Maguan will join Batch 9 of the youth exchange program which focuses on ASEAN and Japanese heritage, traditional culture, contemporary culture and arts.

UP allows 4 students to pay late, graduate

Four University of the Philippines students – Mark Policarpio, Mark Quinto, Christian Durana, Cleve Arguelles – will be considered for graduation this April 2014.
Acting on the letters of appeal of the students received on Monday and Tuesday, UP President Alfredo Pascual advised UP Manila officials to thresh out all issues that may affect the status and enrolment of students in light of the provisions of Articles 330 and 430 of the University Code guided by the spirit of that proviso to promote access to education.
