Two university presidents from opposite ends of Katipunan Avenue appear to be on the same side when it comes to internationalization.

UP Diliman students can pay tuition via debit, ATM cards this week

For this week, students of the University of the Philippines’ Diliman campus may pay their tuition using debit and automated teller machine cards at the University Theater.
UP Diliman cited an agreement between the Office of the Chancellor and the Development Bank of the Philippines, implemented by the UP Diliman Cash Office.
UPD Cash Office acting director Leonila Balasbas said this should mean less hassle and security risks for the payers, and less worry involving the safekeeping or large amounts of money during the registration period for the Cash Office.
Credit cards will not be accepted, UP Diliman said.

All UP campuses start classes in August 2014

All campuses of the University of the Philippines will now start their school year in August 2014.
The University of the Philippines Board of Regents in its 1297th meeting today approved, on a pilot basis, the shift of the academic calendar for UP Diliman to August-July from the current June-May.
The Board of Regents in its 6 February meeting approved, on a pilot basis, the shift in the academic calendar of UP Manila, UP Los Banos, UP Baguio, UP Visayas, UP Mindanao, UP Open University, and UP Cebu College.

UP announces various school calendars

Three campuses of the University of the Philippines have released their new academic calendars as UP prepares to shift the opening of classes from June to August.
On its Facebook page, UP Manila said classes for the first semester would begin Aug. 6, with the same schedule applying to the School of Health Sciences in Palo, Baler, and Koronadal.
The first semester will end on Dec. 5, while the second semester will run from Jan. 26 to May 29. Classes for the short term, or what used to be referred to as “summer,” will be from June 17 to July 17.

UP Diliman League of College Councils release results of What Does the Shift Say? Online Survey

The Proposed UP Academic Calendar Shift
“What Does the Shift Say?” is an online information dissemination initiative of the League of College Councils, the UP Economics Towards Consciousness, the UP Architecture Student Council, together with all local councils of UP Diliman.
An online survey regarding the proposed UP academic calendar shift was conducted from 5 to 14 February 2014 with 1,402 UP Diliman students as respondents.

All respondents were provided with sufficient information with the help of the UP Economics Towards Consciousness. To read the primer, please view the next slideshow.

UP: Time to shift academic calendar

The administration of the University of the Philippines in Diliman says it is high time to shift the academic year — from June-to-March to August-to-May.
In a forum held Monday, UP System President Doctor Alfredo Pascual said the shift is needed to synchronize the state university with international standards.

UP, Ateneo OK August-May schoolyear

The opening of classes in the University of the Philippines system, except in the Diliman campus, and at the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) will be moved from June to August.
Quoting UP student Regent Krista Melgarejo, a report in the Philippine Collegian said the UP Board of Regents has approved the shift in the academic calendar starting this year.
