UP Concert Chorus wows audiences with music and environmentalist spirit

The UP Concert Chorus (UPCC), one of the country’s foremost internationally awarded choral groups and the University’s premier show choir, brought their Filipino audiences to their feet with stirring performances of foreign religious, inspirational, Broadway and pop music, and of original music and classic OPMs, during their concert at the UP Diliman Carillon Plaza on May 5. UP College of Music pays tribute to UP President Alfredo Pascual

The UP College of Music and the UP College of Music Alumni Association Incorporated (UPCMAAI) presented a thanksgiving concert on February 1 at the Executive House in Diliman to honor UP President Alfredo E. Pascual.

Construction of new music buildings, renovation of Abelardo Hall Auditorium

On August 9, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the UP College of Music for the construction of its new music buildings and the renovation of the Abelardo Hall Auditorium.

Fifteen countries unite for the 13th IFLC in Manila

Dances, music, arts and poetry from fifteen countries around the world are coming to Manila to mark the 13th International Festival of Language and Culture. UP Receives Rare Manuscripts of the ‘Waltz King of the Philippines’

The UP College of Music received a pleasant surprise last 10 April 2014 when the granddaughter of Jose Estella, otherwise known of the ‘Waltz King of the Philippines’ donated four boxes of the great composer’s musical scores to the university.
College of Music Dean Dr. Jose Buenconsejo joined Asst. Professor Alegria Ferrer and librarian Lita Estipona in welcoming the donation of Mrs. Maria Angeles Teotico of her grandfather’s personal scores. These, Buenconsejo says, would be invaluable in understanding the 19th century cultural life that Estella helped shape.

UP Abelardo Hall marks 50th anniversary

The University of the Philippines’ College of Music, now under the deanship of Jose S. Buenconsejo, is 97 years old this year. Its auditorium, named after the foremost Filipino composer, Nicanor Abelardo, is 50 years old.
The conservatory has produced world-class musicians, from  Evelyn Mandac (first and last Filipino soprano to sing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York) to tenor Noel Velasco (the first and last Filipino prizewinner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition), and the country’s “winningest” choirs, the Philippine Madrigal Singers and the UP Concert Chorus.
