I am pleased to formally announce the 2016-2018 One U.P. Professorial Chair [PC) Awards and One U.P. Faculty Grant (FG) Awards. The application period shall run from 5 April 2016 (Tuesday) to 17 May 2016 (Tuesday). Applications shall be submitted online as explained below. There are approximately 800 PCs and FGs available under the 2016-2018 One U.P. Awards and awarding is on a competitive basis. In a memorandum issued recently, Vice President for Academic Affairs Gisela P. Concepcion encouraged faculty members to register and create their Google Scholar profile “so that the current list of UP scientists with citations could be updated and corrected in future editions of the Cybermetrics Lab ranking.”
Last month, Cybermetrics Lab has announced the list of top 250 scientists in Philippine institutions. One hundred sixteen (116) of those who landed on the list are affiliated with UP, with UP Manila-based scientists occupying the top spots.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Dr. Oscar Manas Alfonso yesterday, 8 January 2015, at the age of 88.
His remains will be at the Resurrection Chapel, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Mahinhin Street, UP Village, Quezon City.
Dr. Alfonso has served the University as Professor of History, Executive Vice President, Secretary of the University & of the Board of Regents and Regent.
Taking oath before University of the Philippines President Alfredo E. Pascual as the UP System’s new Faculty Regent is Associate Professor Philip Ian Prieto Padilla, MD, PhD of University of the Philippines Visayas. The oath taking was held on 6 January 2015 at Quezon Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
Professor Padilla, who received his doctorate degree in Medical Science at the Nagasaki University, specializing in Cell and Molecular Biology as well as Tropical Medicine and Public Health, will serve a two-year term succeeding Regent Professor Lourdes E. Abadingo.

The University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman is moving closer to a decision on the academic calendar shift to August, with majority of its faculty members voting to follow an earlier move by other UP campuses to start internationalization this year.
In a document obtained by ABS-CBNnew.com, members of the University Council of the Diliman campus “overwhelmingly” voted to shift the calendar to August-July from the current June-May.
The University Council is composed of professors, associate professors, and assistant professors.
