Gabriela Lee named first Dalisay Chair holder

Asst. Prof. Gabriela Dans Lee has been named the first recipient of the One UP-Jose Yap Dalisay Jr. Professorial Chair in Creative Writing.
The chair was endowed by an anonymous donor in the United States earlier this year in honor of Dr. Dalisay, one of the Philippines’ most accomplished writers. He has served as chair of the Department of English and Comparative Literature (DECL) in UP Diliman and director of the UP Institute of Creative Writing, and now serves as Vice President for Public Affairs.

UP profs win top spots in UK engineering pitch contest

Two professors from the University of the Philippines won the top two spots in the Final Pitch Session of the Leaders in Innovation Fellowship with the UK Royal Academy of Engineering held in March in London.

The UP College of Mass Communication (UP CMC) is still accepting nominations for the annual UP Gawad Plaridel which recognizes Filipino media practitioners who have excelled in any of the media (print, radio, film, television, and new media) and have performed with the highest level of professional integrity in the interest of public service. 
For 2017, the thirteenth UP Gawad Plaridel will be given to an outstanding Television Practitioner.

Lumad Leader Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay is 2017 UP Gawad Tandang Sora awardee

The College of Social Work and Community Development of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP-CSWCD) announces the selection of Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay as the recipient of the 2017 Gawad Tandang Sora.
Bai Bibyaon is an outstanding indigenous woman leader. The only female chieftain in the history of the Manobo tribe, she has led the defense of the Manobo ancestral land since 1994. She was among those who led the pangayaw (tribal war) against the intrusion of a destructive logging company that threatened to destroy the ancestral lands in Talaingod, Davao del Norte. Leyte-based radio broadcaster receives UP award

The UP Gawad Plaridel, the sole award of the University for outstanding media practitioners, was given this year to Radio DYVL-Tacloban City station manager Francisca “Babes” Custodio.
Custodio was recognized for her promotion of the Waray oral literary form Siday, language, and culture. She was also cited for public service as exemplified by her remaining on duty during Typhoon Yolanda, which ravaged the station and killed two of the staff and five from a janitor’s family taking shelter in the station.

New batch of UP Artists and Scientists named

Forty-nine scientists earned the title of UP Scientist for 2016-2018, and six artists and art scholars, the title UP Artist for 2015-2017, for productivity in their fields. The awarding ceremony was held on July 26, 2016 at the NISMED Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
One of the UP Artists named this year is from UP Los Baños, while the rest are from UP Diliman. Of the UP Scientists named this …

Memorandum No. PAEP: 16-42: Second Call for the One UP Professorial Chair and Faculty Grant Awards

A second call for application to the One UP Professorial Chair and Faculty Grant Awards is hereby announced to commence on 8 August 2016 (Monday) and end on 30 September 2016 (Friday).
The same guidelines used in the first call will be applied to the second call, as released with Memorandum No. PAEP 16-12. The work evaluated will be the same period from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2015. However,  the award period will now be six months less, i.e., from 1 July 2016 to 31 December 2016.
