UP president Fred Pascual had an unusual Christmas card he posted on Facebook during the holidays. He announced the gift of health that comes from a rice-corn blend.
The Institute of Plant Breeding at UP Los Baños has come up with a 70:30 blend of rice and QPM (quality protein maize). By combining the superb taste of rice and the low glycemic index property of corn, the product can serve as a health-promoting staple in the Filipino diet.

Palma Hall Annex named after illustrious Psychology prof

President Alfredo Pascual, Chancellor Tan, and Prof. Alfredo Mahar Lagmay have just unveiled the unfinished bust of National Scientist for Experimental Psychology Alfredo Lagmay at the lobby of the Palma Hall Annex now renamed Alfredo V. Lagmay Hall after the late scientist. Below it is a reproduction of the honoree’s handwritten message on teaching logic in 1947: “My task would be to make people think better, not to make them think the way I do.” Applauding are College of Social Sciences and Philosophy Dean Grace Aguiling-Dalisay and Lagmay’s daughter Violeta Bandong.

Memorandum No. PAEP 14-61: Suspension of Classes in connection with the Formal Affirmation of Chancellor Michael L. Tan

Classes are hereby suspended in UP Diliman on Friday, 17 October 2014 starting at 1:30PM to allow its faculty and students to attend the affirmation rites of Chancellor Michael L. Tan as UP Diliman’s 10th Chancellor.
Administrative staff are likewise invited to attend the program but head of units are, however, advised to assign a skeletal force to ensure uninterrupted service.
