Danilo L. Concepcion is the 21st President of the University of the Philippines. He will assume the presidency on 11 February 2017. A Law Professor, Bar Reviewer, Corporate Law Practitioner, he is also a radio and television personality.
Danicon, as he is fondly called by his friends and students,has been a consistent honor student having graduated valedictorian in elementary and in high school. Aside from these honors, he was also awarded the Most Outstanding Campus Journalist, Gold Eagle Award for Community and the Gerry Roxas Leadership Award Gold Medal in 1974.
Concepcion finished Agricultural Engineering at the De La Salle-Araneta University in 1979, and topped the Board Exam that same year. He was a full scholar of the National Science Development Board (NSDB) while also enjoying benefits as a full Academic Scholar of the University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, with a Victoria Medal for Academic Excellence.
He took up Law at the UP Diliman, graduating in 1983 and passing the BAR Exam that year as a topnotcher. He was a consistent Dean’s Lister, even while being Lord Chancellor of the Order of the Purple Feather or the Honour Society of Law Students. He was also President of the Forensic Society, Chairman of the Philippine Delegation of Law Students to the ASEAN Law Association (ALA) Conference, and a member of the Society of St. Thomas More.
Concepcion would later earn his Master of Laws degree from the University of London in 1986 as a scholar of the British government.
He was elected member of the Batasang Pambansa in 1978 and served until 1986 as a representative of the youth sector. He was appointed Associate Commissioner of the Securities & Exchange Commission in 1996 and served until his resignation in 2000 to become President of De La Salle-Araneta University.
He returned to UP in 2002 to become Associate Dean of the College of Law, Head of the UP Law Center and Director of the Institute of Judicial Administration until May of 2006. He was appointed Vice-President of Legal Affairs in February 2011 and was elected the 14th Dean of the College on June 3, 2011.
Aside from heading the College of Law, he was also Executive Director of the UP Bonifacio Global City campus. He is also a member of the Civil Code Committee of the Philippine Judicial Academy, as well as a member of their faculty. He is also a Member of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Governing Board, as well as the Committee on Bar Matter and Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of the Philippines.
